At DMRC Research meets real-world impact: Projects and objectives are jointly defined and carried out in close collaboration with our industrial members to achieve results to drive business!
A key focus of research at the DMRC is material analysis and the development of new materials for additive manufacturing. With the capability to produce materials for SLM, LS, FDM, and FGF processes in-house, the center develops metals and polymers tailored to specific applications, enabling optimized performance and expanding the potential of additive technologies.
To increase process reliability and reproducibility, the DMRC researches both software- and hardware-based approaches for process monitoring and quality improvement. Another focus is conducting parameter studies to ensure and enhance the processability of critical materials, thereby strengthening the foundations for consistent, high-quality additive manufacturing applications.
Additive manufacturing enables tool-free production of customized and complex structures. The DMRC continuously works on methodical descriptions and the optimization of process limits. Another research focus is AM-specific design optimization through topology optimization and AI-based methods, ensuring innovative and efficient component development tailored to additive technologies.
Guided by the principle “complexity for free,” additive manufacturing opens access to new fields of application. However, application-specific cost analysis remains essential for evaluating components. A key focus of the DMRC is the analysis and assessment of costs along the entire process chain, providing a solid basis for economic decision-making in additive manufacturing.
